Pissed Jeans, The Tsunamis

When: Sat., April 12, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $12

"Mainly we just wanted to bludgeon the listener with dull, monotonous, droning rock music that just sucks the energy out of you, the musical equivalent to watching a toilet flush," Matt Korvette once said of the origins of his Pennsylvania band Pissed Jeans. Despite those inauspicious origins, Pissed Jeans began crafting compelling and cathartic outbursts less focused on burning down society than griping about everyday annoyances. Their latest album for Sub Pop, Honeys, plows ahead with awry, agitated pop songs like "Cafeteria Food," "Male Gaze" and "Health Plan." Coupling the band's wind-tunnel rush and relatable themes with the manic vocals and on-stage contortions of the charismatic Korvette, Pissed Jeans supplies potent stress-relief. They're joined by Indiana psych-garage greats Apache Dropout and Thee Tsunamis. —Bryan C. Reed
