Everyone knows the story: Geppetto, a lonely old man, makes a wooden puppet who comes to life. This little puppet, Pinocchio, desperately wants to become a real boy, and through a series of misadventures, he finally does. The story has had numerous adaptations, including the ever-popular 1940 animated Disney film and a beguiling ballet, the latter of which is at Memorial Auditorium for the holiday weekend. Performed by Carolina Ballet, this presentation features music by two great Italian composers, Nicola Piovani and Amilcare Ponchielli, and whimsical choreography by Bruce Wells of Pacific Northwest Ballet. —Belem Destefani
