Pickwick, Basia Bulat

When: Mon., April 29, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $10

Seattle sextet Pickwick began as a twangy, roots-rock ensemble, but they now build their retro-leaning indie rock around twin pillars of garage and soul. Equally adept at bluesy slow-burners and jaunty, danceable numbers, the group envelops frontman Gabe Disston's high-register howl in the vintage warmth of fuzzy guitars and swelling organs. Ontario singer-songwriter Basia Bulat's endearing warble charms and enchants, whether she's supported by her own sparse strings of autoharp, hammered dulcimer, ukulele and acoustic guitar or by more fully realized arrangements of chamber folk. —Spencer Griffith
