Phil Cook & His Feat, Kalispell, Brice Randall Bickford

When: Wed., Oct. 17, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $7

Phil Cook's largely instrumental solo musings espouse ancient folk conventions and the explorations of modern innovators such as Ry Cooder and Bill Frisell. Given that Cook is one quarter of Megafaun, this shouldn't be a surprise, but the down-home feel of his hummable tunes makes them deceptively simple. Similarly focused on Appalachian folk, Shane Leonard also shares Cook's Wisconsin ties. His current project, Kalispell, takes a stark, ethereal slant on those traditions. Brice Randall Bickford's lush, painstakingly crafted folk-pop is twangy and sophisticated. —Spencer Griffith
