What's unusual about Peter Lamb is that he loves to color the background of a tune with a rhythmic saxophone vamp as much as he loves to crawl out on a ledge and solo. His jazz palette is promiscuous and peripatetic, dallying in Memphis and New Orleans, Buenos Aires and Berlin. No experiment is off-limits to this fairy-tale quintet, which includes flugelhornist/trumpeter Al Strong, keyboardist/vocalist Mark Wells, drummer Stephen Coffman and bassist George Knott. Expect every ounce of the Wolves' passionate virtuosity, along with a little stormy weather, and a helluva lot of blues. Similarly eclectic, the female vocal-led Sidecar Social Club opens this Hob Nob Jazz Series concert with gin-soaked melodies from Patsy Cline to Billie Holiday. The show runs 5–8 p.m. and tickets are $5, or free for kids 12 and under. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
