To the uninitiated, the name of Georgia jam band Perpetual Groove might suggest the infinite kaleidoscopic horizons of Krautrock, that forever-grooving German form that influenced post-rock and electronica so strongly. But as their fans are wont to abbreviate, PGroove is an extension of the Southern jam continuum, rubbery bass and arcing drums pushing beneath laconic songs about love and distance. There's a little soul beneath the rock, and a lot of bar-band-in-the-corner gestures surrounding both. They do pull an impressive lighting rig into town, though, and their tendency to cover bands outside of their respective noodling realm—Death Cab for Cutie, Kanye West and The Verve—offers a bit of stylistic intrigue. —Grayson Currin
