A category unto themselves, Japanese imports Peelander-Z are as noteworthy for their frantic energy and clever participatory antics as their music. The colorfully dressed quartet enlists audience members to play along on percussive instruments, cavort in costumes and engage in stunts such as human bowling. It's a Japanese game show where a punk concert broke out. Too bad the music's more of an afterthought, even if the loud and fast garage-punk live sound fits the spirited proceedings. The albums, at least, sound much different than the stage show.
