This fourth time around, screenwriter Christopher Landon, along with co-directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schumman (
Catfish), advance the paranormal mythology forward to the year 2011, when Katie (Katie Featherston) and small child Robbie (Brady Allen) have taken up residence in a SoCal residence. Perhaps the scariest conceit offered by the film is the ever-present laptop video surveillance used to capture the "activity": an endless litany of documentary video capturing every waking moment of a family's life that suffices to turn private moments into public spectacle.
