This fourth time around, screenwriter Christopher Landon, along with co-directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schumman (Catfish), advance the paranormal mythology forward to the year 2011, when Katie (Katie Featherston) and small child Robbie (Brady Allen) have taken up residence in a SoCal residence. Perhaps the scariest conceit offered by the film is the ever-present laptop video surveillance used to capture the "activity": an endless litany of documentary video capturing every waking moment of a family's life that suffices to turn private moments into public spectacle.
