More than a decade into their career, the energy and ambition of Austin's The Octopus Project remain inspiring. A quartet of multi-instrumentalists who swap skills several times during the course of a set, they've pushed their indie-friendly take on electronic music—think Squarepusher fans and a Theremin nerd reimagining post-rock—into multimedia settings and an onstage collaboration with Devo. At their worst, as on 2010's Hexadecagon, all that effort shows in awkward and obvious moves; but at their best, The Octopus Project is a gateway of splendor at the intersection of digital and analog music. And they've long been dedicated to the prospect of exciting shows, which is tonight's bonus. Nervous Curtains and Animal Alphabet open the 9 p.m. show. —Grayson Currin
