Oak City 7 series with Yarn, Chit Nasty Band, Suitcase, Curtis Eller

When: Thu., July 11, 5-10:30 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

In its second year, Oak City 7—a series of 11 free concerts in downtown Raleigh—maintains its eclectic sense of programming for better and worse: On any given Thursday night when the series commandeers Raleigh City Plaza, you can expect most anything to happen, from salsa and hip-hop to alt-country and alternative rock. True to form, the fourth show this year pogoes across styles, from the self-righteously clever folk-pop of Winston-Salem's Suitcase to the unabashed funk of Durham's bombastic Chit Nasty. Curtis Eller opens this four-band bill with his updates on old-timey music, while Yarn closes the evening with a 9:15 p.m. set that beckons to the balladry of Gram Parsons and the polished rustic sensibility of newgrass and jam bands. And if you're looking for dinner, Oak City 7 assembles a high-quality roster of food trucks for each concert. —Grayson Currin
