This summer's Oak City 7 programming has been varied, for sure, but this week's installment feels particularly shuffled. Local quintet River City Ransom's charged indie punk recalls The Constantines' barroom postpunk and the righteous hooks of Against Me!'s major-label monsters. Meanwhile, Raleigh's The Roman Spring and Nashville's Young Cardinals suit each other with smooth, moody indie rock informed by Brit-pop. At the top of the bill, Durham's Toon & The Real Laww—charismatic and complementary MCs—buttress playfully boastful rhymes with full-band backing. The four acts make an unlikely combo, but that's apparently the point.
