North Elementary's favorite things

Since releasing their first CD, Out of Phase back in 2002, Chapel Hill's North Elementary have done their share of touring and laid down a lot of tracks, also appearing on last year's local music roundup Compulation. Now principal songwriter John Harrison and friends have a new selection of their pensive pop to throw in the old disc player, Lose Your Favorite Things, out on Sit-n-Spin Records. The sounds of various instruments weave their way through North Elementary's music: soft fuzzy guitar tones, hushed vocal harmonies, Margaret White's plucked banjo and violin strokes. Harrison's fondness for writers like Wayne Coyne is evident when the melancholy mood of the songs is undercut as they reach their rock-out apex, which often happens when they play live. In addition to their new CD, they'll also have a limited number of as-yet-unreleased tracks on CD available at their release show.

The party is at Go! Room 4 Saturday, July 24. Opening are Work Clothes and Cub Country. EndBlock
