North Elementary, Hectorina, Natural Science

When: Sat., Nov. 3, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

North Elementary luxuriates in the swirl of distorted guitars, swelling keyboard washes and ringing, grappling hooks that find purchase in craggiest hearts. Their latest, Soft Couch Tremolo, is noisier than 2010's Southern Rescue Trails, frequently harking back to the early '90s sound of Pavement, Blake Babies and Archers of Loaf. Be The experimental Charlotte trio Hectorina is fronted by regional fixture Dylan Gilbert and channels the loose, tuneful chaos of Deerhoof. The guitars tend toward post-punk but reference everything from Jawbox to Frank Zappa to Jimi Hendrix, often in the course of one short song. Natural Science opens. —Chris Parker
