Contemporary artists commonly take traditional handicrafts to conceptual extremes. Ralph Wileman eschews the typical practice of articulating designs in advance on an open weave canvas; his extreme embroidery takes a more spontaneous, painterly approach, sketching possibilities on the weave and diving into the needlework. His works are colorful and fun, at times resembling Paul Klee's more geometric paintings. Get an advance look from 2–4 p.m. Thursday; there's a formal opening reception from 2–4 p.m. on Sept. 9. —Chris Vitiello
