As New Year's revelry dies down, the North Carolina Symphony reminds us of the cyclical nature of life with "The Four Seasons," performed both Friday and Saturday nights. Vivaldi's beloved "Spring" and "Winter" are on the program, as are spicier summer and fall takes from Argentinian tango master Astor Piazzolla's "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires." Canadian violinist Lara St. John, lauded for her warmth and virtuosity, takes Meymandi's stage as the featured soloist. Two Tchaikovsky pieces (not "The Nutcracker," don't worry) round out the evenings. Pre-concert events both nights give insight into the music, and the Symphony's "Ask a Musician" program in the lobby during intermission is always a treat. —Chris Vitiello
