With Mark Weems entrenched in old-time and Julee Glaub a maestro of traditional Irish fare, the duet of Little Windows aims for unique compositions built with time-honored conventions. It is a marriage of history and harmony accompanied by guitar, fiddle, banjo, flute, piano and bodhrán. Their compositions run the gamut of Appalachian and Celtic folk music, but they pay special attention to the ballad form. Whatever the arrangement, Weems and Glaub tackle it with a harmonic intensity bordering on spiritual fervor.

Such zeal has earned them the attention of national and international audiences, as well as some much deserved affection from the NPR circuit. Their devotion has also led them to pour their passion into their own Camp Little Windows, a traditional singing camp, as well as the brand new North Carolina School of Traditional Music. At the school, they share their knowledge of things like archaic instrument techniques, singing methods and songwriting. At The ArtsCenter, they'll share the stage with a few bright stars from their studentship. —Ashley Melzer
