Dubbed "Rock the Ball," this is the most accessible of the five events the Junior League of Raleigh presents Thursday and Friday as part of the Governor's Inaugural Ball celebration. Headlined by hometown heroes American Aquarium, this triple bill teams the alt-country quintet's open-hearted barroom anthems with the rootsy jangles of Winston-Salem's Big Daddy Love. Veteran six-piece Balsa Gliders bring melodic rock with a touch of twang in the opening slot. Tickets are $20 for the 9 p.m. show, with proceeds benefiting the Junior League of Raleigh's Center for Community Leadership. Visit lincolntheatre.com.
If you're still looking to party with the incoming McCrory administration, on Friday there are several events at the Raleigh Convention Center. At 6 p.m. is the Governor's Reception, with the Raleigh Jazz Trio providing the music. Admission to this alone is $150. For $200, you can catch The Avett Brothers at the 8 p.m. Gala Presentation. That ticket will also get you into the Inaugural Ball at 9 p.m. with Bull City Syndicate, The Hot at Nights and Old Habits. Tickets for the Ball alone are $125. Visit jlraleigh.org. —Spencer Griffith
