Natalie MacMaster: Christmas in Cape Breton

When: Thu., Dec. 16, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $33-$54

Triple threats are abundant in the music world, with the singer/songwriter/guitarist mix the most common variety. Natalie MacMaster's trifecta—fiddler, vocalist and step dancer—isn't so common. The Nova Scotian artist started out deeply rooted in the Cape Breton sound, which migrated from the Scottish Highlands to Canada, and it continues to be at the heart of her music and performances. But she's as adventurous as she is gifted, incorporating jazz, Latin music and whatever else strikes her fancy. She's guested with everyone from Yo-Yo Ma to Kiran Ahluwalia, earning another triple tag: traditionalist, explorer and collaborator. This "Christmas in Cape Breton" show starts at 8 p.m; tickets range from $33–$54. —Rick Cornell
