Mynabirds, Sean Bones, The Design

When: Mon., June 25, 8:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $9-11

In 2010, singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn toured as a part of Bright Eyes and released What We Lose in the Fire, We Gain in the Flood, her debut as Mynabirds. It was a shimmering pop record built with soul. For the Mynabirds' sophomore effort, Generals, Burhenn turned to army stomps and claps to let out her political ideas. Drawing inspiration from a Richard Avedon photo titled "The Generals of the Daughters of the American Revolution," Burhenn imagines she's a modern-day DAR exposing exploitation on Generals. Brooklyn artist Sean Bones presents genre-bending dance hooks. Raleigh's The Design open. Tickets to the 8:30 p.m. show are $9 in advance, $11 day of show. —Ashleigh Phillips
