Used to be musical chairs meant a brat slipping in at the last second and winning the strawberry shortcake. But for Nightsound Studios in Carrboro and 15 local bands, Musical Chairs means a generous round of creativity and collaboration. The studio invited 15 local bands across multiple genres to swap random songs with each other and hit Record. The resulting compilation, available for free download on the project's website (nightsoundmusicalchairs.bandcamp.com), is, they hope, "a one-of-a-kind snapshot of the local music scene."

"I think the best things local bands can do is collaborate with each other, support each other and take advantage of the incestuous music scene around here," says Patrick Phelan of Luego, whose band plays the release party, along with Puritan Rodeo, New Town Drunks and the Lizzy Ross Band. —Ashley Melzer
