Music Spotlight

Though many sing the praises of Rodeo Boy, the quartet's new release, The Pine and the Promise, delivers a batch of songs that should break the Wilmington group to a wider audience. Great guitar playing, hooks, unexpected chord changes and innovative arrangements make this pop disc grab you by the shoulders and give you a good shake. The boys are playing two CD release shows: Thursday, Dec. 27, at Kings Barcade in Raleigh, Rodeo Boy headline with those languid, atmospheric tunesmiths The Kingsbury Manx and Matt Brown's (former Ashley Stove) project, My Code Name is Blue. Then on Saturday, Dec. 29, The Kingsbury Manx headline at Go! Room 4 in Carrboro, with Rodeo Boy in the middle slot and Work Clothes, Lee Waters and Jenny Scheitler's acoustic act, opening the show.
