It seems men in tights make fierce leaders. The first great buccaneer of them all may well be Robin Hood, the famed "prince of thieves." When the benevolent King Richard of England (Ian Hunter) is captured and held for ransom, Sir Robin of Locksley (Erroll Flynn) sets out to fight the tax-hungry Prince Jon and his henchmen. Guerrilla warfare (bow and arrow style), spectacular sets, romance and memorable characters set the stage for an action adventure film that became a prototype for its genre. Directed by Michael Curtiz and William Keighley, the 1938 film also stars Olivia de Havilland as Maid Marian, Basil Rathbone as Sir Guy and Eugene Pallette as Friar Tuck. The Adventures of Robin Hood is presented by the Chapel Hill Senior Center. See "Special Showings" for more information.
