Monsters of Mock Tribute Fest with Appetite for Destruction, Shoot to Thrill, Up the Irons, Cowboy, El Diablo, Joe Hero

When: Sat., Nov. 26, 6 p.m. 2011
Price: $12-18

This mini-festival assembles a slew of big-name hard rock acts for a relative bargain compared with even the cheapest seats at their respective shows, but there's one big caveat: They're all phonies. Several of North Carolina and Virginia's top tribute bands imitate icons of metal, blues and rock: Appetite for Destruction does Guns N' Roses minus Axl's histrionics and Chinese Democracy, while Shoot to Thrill takes on AC/DC in all-woman fashion. Up the Irons headbangs through '80s Iron Maiden tunes, and El Diablo does ZZ Top complete with the requisite beards. For a decade-late update, Cowboy alternates between Kid Rock's twang and rap rock, while Joe Hero faithfully reproduces the Foo Fighters. Tickets to the 6 p.m. event are $12 in advance, $15 day of show and $18 in advance for VIP balcony access. —Spencer Griffith
