YEASAYER, SHAPES AND SIZES
DUKE COFFEEHOUSE—A Baltimore/Philly hybrid that calls Brooklyn home now, Yeasayer's excellent Monitor Records debut, All Hour Cymbals, combines space-launch textures, junkhouse percussion, calypso cavaliering, electroshock synthesizers and tribal chants. Most enjoyable, though, are the winks glancing from songs about kingdom come: "No Need to Worry," for instance, references "black skies" and "words [that] will never sound again" while cramming references to Queen, Pink Floyd and The Beach Boys into a tiny space. All Hour Cymbals is like tripping balls while pilfering an erudite friend's record collection. Montreal's Shapes and Sizes sounds like a line between Do Make Say Think and Islands. Beloved Binge opens at 8 p.m. for $7. —Grayson Currin

CHARLIE SAVAGE
