Guitar Hero Night
  • Guitar Hero Night

Chapel Hill
GUITAR HERO NIGHT
LOCAL 506—506 owner Glenn Boothe blames poor promotion on the lack of patrons at the last Guitar Hero night, but, on the heels of the release of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, there should be buzz for the plastic guitars and rock 'n' roll theatrics. Be prepared to show your gaming mettle in front of a live and virtual audience. The 9 p.m. show is free—be prepared to be tamed by "Raining Blood." —Dan Strobel

HAMMER NO MORE THE FINGERS, DEAD CONFEDERATE
THE CAVE—Two regional bands to keep your eyes on: Durham's Hammer No More the Fingers puts a fire back beneath the Triangle's indie rock stock, with Joe Hall's angular but muscular guitar forming the linchpin for the band's playful anthems. Athens' excellent Dead Confederate can be brooding and menacing, grounding a My Morning Jacket aplomb with a Georgia snarl. Dead Confederate also plays Slim's Friday, Nov. 30. Cave show starts at 10 p.m. for $5. —Grayson Currin

Durham
BARRY JACOBS
REGULATOR BOOKSHOP—The basketball conferences that gave us David Thompson, Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins used to be hostile territory for blacks. Orange County Commissioner Barry Jacobs' book is called Across the Line: Profiles in Basketball Courage: Tales of the First Black Players in the ACC and SEC. He reads tonight at 7 p.m. Visit www.regbook.com for more info. —David Fellerath
