Chapel Hill
Buddy Miller, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin and Emmylou Harris
Memorial Hall—Buddy Miller is an in-demand producer and guitar slinger when not busy making his own outstanding roots-soul records. Though he was anointed as the best country music artist around by Robbie Fulks several years ago in a New York Times piece, you won't find Miller anywhere on your country music dial. You will, however, find him on tour with the beyond-gifted trio of Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin and Emmylou Harris, a gathering sure to rise well above its "Three Girls and Their Buddy" name. The show starts at 7:30, but, alas, the "Sold Out" sign has been posted. Get there early and put your pointer finger in the sky. —Rick Cornell

Chapel Hill
The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek
UNC Campus—The New York City-based GroundUp productions returns to their roots (the crew calls UNC their alma mater) with a showing of Naomi Wallace's Depression-era coming-of-age play The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek. The New York Times has deemed the play "a blend of Ingmar Bergman and Horton Foote, with Thornton Wilder on the side" and a "revival of the genuine American voice." The show runs Jan. 11-14 in Bingham Hall. For tickets, e-mail dixonmb@email.unc.edu or call 336-457-1236. The curtain rises tonight at 8:15 p.m. —Kathy Justice
