Chapel Hill
Her Space Holiday
Local 506—For many of the last dozen years, Her Space Holiday auteur Marc Bianchi wove indietronic tapestries that shimmered in the twilight as they drifted around warm washes of melody. Pretty but persistently downbeat, the band often felt as distant as a depressed shut-in. But Bianchi completely shifted the map for last year's XOXO, Panda and the New Kid Arrival, which ditched the icy ambience in favor of more organic, rootsy indie-folk shamble. Bianchi still fashions rich canvasses, but the concentration on drums, bass and guitar infuses new life into the hook-abetted arrangements. Think of a more ragged early Beulah, and you're close. City Light opens the $10 show at 9:30 p.m. —Chris Parker
