Henry Alford
Regulator Bookshop—The journalism of "investigative humorist" Henry Alford appears in Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, The Paris Review and other high-end magazines. Here and in his books, Alford specializes in first-person accounts of fruitless quests. His book Big Kiss, for example, was a narrative of joining the hordes of underemployed New York actors in an effort to hit the big time. However, his just-published How to Live: A Search for Wisdom from Old People (While They Are Still on This Earth), indicates a slightly more serious vein, although humor remains very much in the mix. His frequently updated Web site (henryalford.com) features an old-age perspective on the news, including little nuggets about the recent deaths of such aged greats as Eartha Kitt and Harold Pinter. Alford appears tonight at 7 p.m. Visit www.regulatorbookshop.com for more information. —David Fellerath
