Quail Ridge Books—Quail Ridge Books has hosted such children's authors as Lemony Snicket and Rick Riordan this year, and its streak continues with Angie Sage, author of the popular Septimus Heap series. The tale of the seventh son of a seventh son who becomes an apprentice wizard, Heap has earned raves for its fully realized fantasy world and is regarded by some as the successor to Harry Potter. Indeed, Warner Brothers is developing an animated film of the books to start production after the last Potter film has wrapped. Syren, the fifth book of the projected seven-book series, came out on Tuesday, and Sage will appear for a signing at Quail Ridge at 5 p.m. Take your kids—or discover the series for yourself. For more information, visit www.quailridgebooks.com or call 828-1588. —Zack Smith
