The Regulator Bookshop—Just as the McCain/ Palin rallies have given way to ugly, hate-filled crowds, popular Duke history professor Tim Tyson—who has been actively involved in voter registration this election season— and the News & Observer's longtime book writer and columnist J. Peder Zane will chew over the role of race in this year's presidential election. America is on the verge of electing a biracial president, which is truly remarkable. It was only a few short years ago when the commonplace opinion was that such an event would not occur in our lifetimes. Still, the election is three weeks away, and, by the time of tonight's event, it's entirely possible that events will conspire to turn the race back in McCain's favor. Zane, a thoughtful observer of the culture, and Tyson, the author of Blood Done Sign My Name, are sure to have sharp observations about our historical moment. The event begins at 7 p.m. —David Fellerath
