Mike Roy Show, Wilder Maker, No Eyes

When: Wed., Oct. 10, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

Polished into elegance, Mike Roy's Mike & Eileen Chapter One charts the first year of the rootsy singer-songwriter's turbulent marriage with gorgeous melancholy. Performing live, though, Roy lets the ragged edges show, transforming his reserved tunes into heartland rock that borders on rowdy. Middle act Wilder Maker shares commonalities with Bon Iver's more earthy moments. Rife with warm harmonies, the Brooklyn collective—led by classically trained jazz saxophonist Gabriel Birnbaum—gives Americana an avant garde bent, swinging wildly from free-jazz outbursts to sunny '60s pop. Raleigh psych-rockers No Eyes open. —Spencer Griffith
