Mike Farris & the Roseland Rhythm Revue

When: Fri., March 29, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $25-$27

Mike Farris is familiar to many as the sweet-throated frontman of bluesy hard rockers Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies. He struck out on his own in 2002. His voice still possesses a rugged swagger, but he now applies it to soulful gospel. That has coincided with a spiritual rebirth for the hard-living performer. His last release, the terrific, six-song The Night the Cumberland Came Alive, explored a Dixieland blues vein, and he arrives in Carrboro with a nine-piece band in tow, including Nashville icons The McCrary Sisters. The Bayou blues flavor heavily evokes The Band without sounding slavish. —Chris Parker
