Michael Burks, Delta Moon

When: Fri., March 2, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $20-22

Arkansas singer-guitarist Michael Burks has earned his "Iron Man" nickname for his marathons of electric blues. Built like a lumberjack, the powerhouse performer possesses soulful pipes that shake the walls while the searing tone of his Flying V scorches, burning up the room and its sweaty inhabitants. Atlanta quartet Delta Moon serves up swampy Southern blues akin to the North Mississippi Allstars' hill country boogie. Whether on covers of Mississippi greats Fred McDowell and R.L. Burnside or on the band's own inspired originals, vocalist Tom Gray's smoky rasp settles next to dual slide guitars that trade greasy licks over steadfast grooves. —Spencer Griffith
