Melissa Swingle, Michael Rank & Mark E Smith

When: Sat., Feb. 18, 10 p.m. 2012
Price: $6

Spring is a time for new beginnings, and these area institutions are gearing up. Melissa Swingle has explored country gothic with Trailer Bride and electric blues crunch with the Moaners. Tonight, she showcases new material backed by some special guests, while revisiting some old favorites. The show will presumably offer a peek at the Moaners' fourth album, planned for release later this year. Michael Rank (from Snatches of Pink) and Marc E. Smith (of that band and also Patty Hurst Shifter) provide an acoustic take on the Rank side project Stag, featuring tracks from their forthcoming debut Kin. Typical of Rank, it's Stones-obsessed, but focused on a country rock heightened by Rank's ragged dissipation. —Chris Parker
