From their unabashedly melodramatic name to their overbearing but somehow not annoying embrace of Christian themes, Philly's arty, spleen-venting, post-hardcore veterans mewithoutYou remain delightfully out of step with current trends and canny ideas of cool. Ten Stories, their fifth album in 10 years, isn't "chill" and has no art-damaged dance beats. Even its experimental edge doesn't connote hip reserve but rather manic, dynamic bursts of joy and despair. Opening are shouting-sincere Kevin Devine and broke-down folksters Buried Beds. —Brandon Soderberg
