Gaining credibility in the rock world as the professional, pounding heartbeat of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and entering America's collective consciousness as the lovably dry-witted drummer of Conan O'Brien's late-night ensemble, Max Weinberg is a personality behind the kit. His Big Band's show is an excellent chance to experience his powerful technique. Roaring through swing numbers that are less dazzle and more muscle, the melody makers in the outfit make plenty of room for Weinberg's snare hits and cymbal crashes. Favoring rhythmic tumult over brassy crescendo, the band lands hard enough so that you might still cut rugs. —Jordan Lawrence
