The duo Mates of State might suggest Matt & Kim, but they've been around about a decade longer. They've released a half-dozen albums of dynamic, often buoyant pop, bolstering their originals with a quixotic mix of covers by the likes of Mars Volta, Tom Waits and Death Cab for Cutie. Honestly, these days, those covers are what they do best. Brooklyn's Sean Bones opens, adding a touch of reggae to his Ben Folds-ish piano pop; he's the bill's highlight. —James Hatfield
