Last weekend, Americans got a rare taste of deadly political violence, and today's celebration of Martin Luther King's legacy will be an urgent occasion for reflection on nonviolent political and social change. A number of Triangle events are scheduled through the course of the weekend. On this day of national remembrance, events in Raleigh will include an 11 a.m. march (assembly begins at 10) from the state capitol building to Progress Energy Center, where an ecumenical prayer service will take place in Meymandi Concert Hall at noon, with a keynote address to be delivered by the Rev. Dr. Earl C. Johnston of Raleigh's Martin Street Baptist Church. At 5:30 in the same space, a musical and dance celebration commences. —David Fellerath
