Being new to the South is a bit of an adjustment. One word: humidity. But there's plenty to be learned, and local author Marjorie Hudson imparts those lessons in her short-story collection Accidental Birds of the Carolinas. These eight tales, set in fictional Ambler County, N.C., involve everything from carnies and runaways to the musings of an 18th-century Eno Indian. Hudson will read from and sign copies of Accidental Birds at 3 p.m. —Zack Smith
