Brooklyn's The Big Sleep are noisy and nervous, often instrumental, sometimes psychedelic—and that works. Maps & Atlases absorb the idiosyncrasies of their nuts-for-post-rock hometown of Chicago, increase the catchy factor, and add a nice helping of somehow jaunty melancholy thanks to riffs and Dave Davison's homely R&B-like vocal. Their songs are lots of fun and a real bummer at the same time, so Future Islands isn't a bad comparison. Consider this show an exercise in identifying the differences between indie rock done well, and what happens when a group knows how to twist that sound just right. The slippery and great Sister Crayon open. Tickets to the 9 p.m. show are $11 in advance, $13 at the door. —Brandon Soderberg
