There couldn't be a more perfect group to kick off the 2011 iteration of the Saxapahaw Rivermill's summer music series than Mandolin Orange. The charming Carrboro folk duo (and sometimes quartet) is a series favorite, thanks to its dulcet coed harmonies and plaintive melodies and lyrics. Typically adorned only with acoustic guitar and fiddle or mandolin, the pair's tunes are ideally suited for Saxapahaw's bucolic setting: a big, blanket-filled grassy hill in front of the stage and a strollable farmers market nearby. The show runs 5–8 p.m.; bring donations to place in the swan bucket for the band. —Spencer Griffith
