Years ago, these acoustic tours were a four-troubadour affair, with unpigeonholable Texas stylist Lyle Lovett and Nashville songwriter laureate John Hiatt joined by high-strung Flatlanders co-leader Joe Ely and trailblazing legend Guy Clark. Lovett and Hiatt brought this refocused double-bill to DPAC in Durham last year. If it's a little less of an event, at least you get to hear more songs from each of them. Hiatt has seemed to mostly coast on his career accomplishments in recent years—granted, it's been an impressive career—but Lovett turned out some of his most compelling songs in years on 2012's Release Me, a top-10 country disc. Good as the concert is likely to be, general admission tickets seem unreasonably pricey, though UNC students and staff get a discount.
