Lionel Shriver

When: Tue., April 3, 7:30 p.m. 2012

Gastonia native and former Raleigh resident Lionel Shriver had a good year last year with the release of the acclaimed film of her novel We Need to Talk About Kevin, the story of a mother and a son guaranteed to make all childless couples who experience it see the doctor to get sterilized posthaste. We've been told by booksellers that Shriver is a bit tired of talking about Kevin, so if you attend this reading, try to focus on the new book she's promoting, The New Republic, a comic tale on the nature of popularity involving a lawyer-turned-journalist in Portugal who finds himself dealing with the local terrorist group. Shriver appears at 7:30 p.m. —Zack Smith
