Linda Sue Park

When: Mon., Dec. 13, 7 p.m. 2010

Newbery Medal winner Linda Sue Park (A Single Shard) takes on the story of a Sudanese "lost boy" in her new book, A Long Walk to Water. The book is based on the true tale of Salva, a Sudanese boy in the 1980s, and Nya, a modern girl in 2008, who must walk two hours each day to draw water from a well for her family. Their stories intersect in an unexpected way that will give readers plenty of food for thought about the world around them. The signing runs 7–8 p.m.; Park also appears at Quail Ridge Books & Music in Raleigh on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. —Zack Smith
