Continuing in the nearly 35-year-old Memorial Day weekend tradition begun by the late "Big John" Maness, Lil John Maness presents a three-day festival of bluegrass a half-hour west of Chapel Hill in the unincorporated community of Snow Camp. The festival's bill—which skews overwhelmingly traditional—is stuffed with so many IBMA winners that an armload of awards seems to be a prerequisite for playing.
Thursday's slate features bluegrass superstars Dailey & Vincent and two sets from Sideline, which includes Darrell Webb and Skip Cherryholmes. Michael Cleveland & Flame Keeper and Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers—their bandleaders a stellar fiddler and guitarist, respectively—are the cream of Friday's crop, along with the terrific pairing of esteemed banjo picker Little Roy and singer-songwriter Lizzy Long. Saturday's schedule is stacked with ex-Shenandoah singer Marty Raybon & Full Circle, legends Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out, Darrell Webb's own outfit and a closing set from an all-star band that includes many of the weekend's best. —Spencer Griffith
