Let Them Be Heard

When: Feb. 21-March 1, 6, 7 & 8 p.m. 2014
"I always knew there were more stories out there. This was a chance to tell them." Bare Theatre artistic director Todd Buker is talking about a new evening of authentic narratives from former North Carolina slaves he's adapted for stage. Their stories were transcribed during interviews by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. In this series, gifted actors enact these survivors and tell their sometimes joyous, sometimes harrowing tales during a walk by lantern light in and among the buildings of the Stagville Plantation. Since earlier iterations moved sell-out audiences and critics (including a 5-star INDY review), we're expecting a compelling evening of historical testimony, from those who witnessed it firsthand. —Byron Woods
