The funk is rising, and this Central Florida octet is poised to benefit. The Legendary Joint Chiefs get greasy and soulful, recalling Stax Records and Otis Redding (frontman Eugene Snowden's obvious influence). They have a firm grip on slithering groove, and Snowden is a fine singer; both of those assets pay strong dividends on last year's Our Time Will Come. It comes after three live albums; listening to the players' communication and chemistry on Our Time, it's easy to imagine they're at their best live. The Fritz and Welcome Back to Soul open the 9 p.m. show.—Chris Parker
