King Lear

When: July 5-6, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $10

King Lear has been reimagined as a contemporary story in this Left Field Theatre show acted, directed and produced by teens. For those who missed out on the play in English class, the original story focuses on an aging king's decision to test the loyalty of his three daughters before dividing his kingdom among them. This, of course, leads to a downward spiral of confusion and deception, all under the thematic arch of politics, philosophy and the complex psychology of family dynamics—key aspects that the updated version leaves intact. The classic Shakespearean tragedy is sure to shine with the brilliant emotionality and melancholy only teenagers can offer. —Mary Alta Feddeman
