Karla Bonoff, Peter Holsapple

When: Sat., March 2, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $23-31

It's a nice treat that local hero and dB's frontman Peter Holsapple will open this show. But it's bittersweet when one considers that the opener for Karla Bonoff's 2010 ArtsCenter concert was her longtime cohort Kenny Edwards, who passed away six months later. He'd been there for Bonoff's entire career, from their days with the folk-rock quartet Bryndle to his production work on her landmark late-'70s solo works. Bonoff's 1977 self-titled debut still ranks as one of the finest first records in popular music; no surprise that Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt raided it for songs on their own albums. At this point, it's been a long time since Bonoff has issued a record of new material, but it's still a gift that she continues to tour, even if Edwards is no longer at her side. —Peter Blackstock
