Jonathan Tropper

When: Wed., Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m. 2012

Jonathan Tropper's looks at awkward relationships and personal shortcomings reach life-and-death stakes in his latest book, One Last Thing Before I Go, in which a washed-up rock musician decides to forgo the heart surgery he needs, choosing instead to make amends in his life, particularly with his pregnant teenage daughter. Despite some titular similarities, this is not a sequel to his previous book, This is Where I Leave You, though it would be thematically appropriate if his next volume was called Hello, I Must Be Going. If you go to the signing, ask Tropper about the upcoming Cinemax series he co-created, Banshee, because ... well, how the hell does one create a TV series for Cinemax? That, and it's produced by True Blood's Alan Ball and is about a corrupt sheriff in Amish Country and was shot in North Carolina—so hell, I'm intrigued. Tropper appears at 7:30 p.m. —Zack Smith
